Volunteering with LA COMPAGNIE LA MAIN A LA PATE is fundamentally different from participating in commercial corporate volunteering schemes. We are a sovereign, democratic Association Loi 1901 where volunteers are not treated as unpaid labor for corporate profit, but as respected partners, decision-makers, and caretakers of our collective natural heritage.
When you volunteer with us, you join an inclusive, multi-generational community of over 1,200 rural and urban residents. We provide thorough field preparation, safety gear, and mentorship by experienced field botanists and theater practitioners. No previous scientific background or artistic credentials are required—only a genuine enthusiasm for ecological health and communal solidarity.
Our volunteer working circles meet on weekends and weekday evenings across Alzen, Saint-Girons, Foix, and neighboring communes, allowing you to participate according to your personal availability, whether you can offer one Saturday a month or several hours each week.

Four Meaningful Ways to Contribute
Riparian Planting & Bocage Restoration
Participate in physical planting sessions, digging planting holes, staking saplings, spreading organic straw mulch, and maintaining living hedgerow fences (plessage) to protect fragile riverbanks from erosion.
Citizen Botanical & Wildlife Censuses
Join our trained field teams in monitoring wild orchid colonies, inspecting acoustic bat detectors, collecting water samples for dissolved oxygen analysis, and logging observations into national biodiversity registries.
Traveling Theater, Puppetry & Music
Contribute your creative talents to our traveling performance troupe. Roles include puppeteer, prop maker using natural materials, acoustic musician, stage manager, and workshop facilitator for school children.
Administrative Logistics & Event Support
Support our non-profit governance behind the scenes: coordinating volunteer rosters, preparing hot communal meals for field crews, drafting newsletters, managing our open library, and organizing public assembly halls.
